Discipleship

GROWING AND LEARNING ONE-TO-ONE

Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works--Hebrews 10:24

How it works

We desire that every member be a disciple-maker who makes disciple-makers. Members are encouraged to seek members who are more mature than themselves to be discipled by. Likewise, members are also encouraged to find members in need of discipling and begin to walk alongside them. This is best done organically within the body.

ONE-TO-ONE

Discipleship works best in a one-to-one or one-to-two setting. Members are encouraged to meet in these size groups with others of the same gender. The small number allows for a deeper connection to be developed as well as trust and sharing to take place. These relationships are encouraged to be one focused on biblical study as well as Christian maturity. The goal should be to encourage the biblical disciplines of the Christian life.

DISCIPLE-MAKERS

Another goal of these groups is to make disciples who make disciples. Therefore, there should be an end goal in mind that is obviously guided by the Spirit. The training and growth that takes place within these groups should be designed in the manner that the one being discipled then begins to make disciples.

FAITH FAMILY AND BEYOND

After our own families, our next obligation is to our faith family, the church. Paul says to the Galatians, "So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith" (Gal. 6:10). We are to build up the church, "speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ" (Eph. 4:15). So, as a first obligation, we encourage members at Mt. Zion to disciple within the body, but we do not stay here. We begin here but do not stay here. We then move to begin to disciples those who are coming to faith outside of the faith family.
